Crop Progress Report for the Week of October 9, 2017

Corn mature is at 82% overall; this is behind 2016’s progress by 10% and a 14% increase through the week. No additional states are reporting corn 100% mature (NC reached 100% last week) and all states are reporting at least 50% mature.  Corn harvest is now at 22% overall; NC and TN are reporting over 80% harvested.  All states are behind their progress from 2016 except for TX (which is reporting 76% harvested for 2016 and 2017) and MI (which is reporting 2% more harvested this year than last).  IL harvested an additional 17% of their corn crop through this past week.

Soybeans dropping leaves are at 89% overall, with many states reporting at least 90% dropping leaves.  This progress is ahead of the five year average by 2% and only 1% behind 2016’s progress.  Soybean harvest had a productive week!  IL, ND, and OH reported harvesting at least an additional 20% of their crop this week with MI reporting 30%!  The harvest progress for 2017 is behind both the 2016 and five year average. 

Cotton bolls opening are at 72% overall with LA now reporting 100%!  All other states are reporting at least 60%, with the exception of KS at 58%.  All states are now in their cotton harvest!  VA is the most recent state to join harvest and is reporting 5% harvested.  The overall harvest progress is at 25% which is ahead of the five year average and 2016’s progress.

Sorghum coloring is nearly finished at 97% overall and NE now reporting 100% colored.  This stage is expected to finish through the week.  Sorghum mature is at 69%, all states are reporting at least 45% mature.  Sorghum harvest is nearly finished in AR, they are reporting 99% harvested.  IL is reporting 50% harvested; reaching the half way mark ahead of their previous progress.  CO, KS, NM, and SD are still reporting under 10% harvested.

Peanuts harvested are now at 39% overall, this is ahead of the five year average by 7% but behind 2016’s progress by 1%.  FL surpassed the halfway point last week and are reporting 62% harvested; harvesting an additional 20% through the week.

Sugarbeet harvest is at 42% overall.  This progress is ahead of 2016 by 7% and reflects a strong week of harvest.  ND harvested 38% of their crop and MN harvested 24% of their crop through the past week.

Sunflower harvest is now included in the report!  Sunflower harvest just started this week and is at 6% overall.  SD is reporting the most progress at 10% harvested and CO has not started their harvest yet.  The overall progress is behind that of previous years.

Rice harvest is finished in LA and TX!  AR and MS are not far behind with nearly 95% harvested.  CA is the only state reporting under 50% harvested but they had a strong week, harvesting 22% through the week.
