Crop Progress Report for the Week of June 4, 2018

Corn planting is nearing the end at 97% planted!  No new states are reporting planting finished, only IL and MO are at 100% planted.  IL and MO are ahead of progress from previous years as no state reporting 100% by this time in 2017 and the five year average does not show states at 100% yet!  Overall progress is 2% ahead of that of previous years.  With a slow start to the planting season, corn planting will likely finish quickly.  Corn emerged is at 86% overall – this is ahead of the progress in 2017 and the five year average.  All states are reporting at least 50% emerged.

Soybeans planted is at 87% overall – no states are reporting 100% finished with soy planting yet but LA and NE are both reporting over 95% planted.  Overall progress is ahead of 2017 by 6% and ahead of the five year average by 12%!  Soybeans emerged are at 68% overall.  This is an increase of 21% through the week!  Emerged progress is ahead of 2017’s progress by 13%!

Cotton planted is at 76% overall with AZ, CA, and MO reporting 100% planted.  LA and AR are reporting 99% cotton planted.  Overall, cotton planting progress is behind 2017 by 2%.  Cotton squaring is also behind 2017’s progress but by 1% at 9% squaring overall.  Not all states are reporting cotton squaring.  CA is reporting 0% squared but had been finished with their planting for 3 weeks now.  MO is reporting the most with 18% cotton squaring – this is ahead of their 2017 progress as MO reported 0% for this time of year in 2017.

AR and LA are reporting sorghum planting 100% finished!  Overall progress is at 61% with CO and KS reporting under 50% planted.  TX is the only state still planting that is reporting over 90% planted.  The overall planting progress is ahead of the progress from previous years by 7-8%.

Peanuts planted are nearing the end at 83% planted overall.  Progress is behind the previous years by 4-6%.  TX is the only state reporting 90% planted.  Other states are reporting at least 77% planted. 

Sunflowers planted are nearly at the halfway mark with 49% planted.  ND has the most planting progress at 67% planted.  KS and SD are both reporting 36% planted and CO is 18% planted.  This progress, overall, is behind 2017 by 9% but is ahead of the five year average by 8%.

LA is reporting 100% rice emerged!  All other states are reporting between 77-99% emerged with the overall progress at 95%.  This is ahead of the progress from previous years.
