Crop Progress Report for the Week of September 10, 2018

Highlights: Corn, cotton, sugarbeet, and peanut harvest has started. Winter wheat planting has started. Soybean harvest projected to start this week.

Corn dented is at 86% overall; this progress is ahead of previous years by at least 10%. Only NC is behind the progress from previous years and NC is one of the states with the most corn progress. Corn harvest started and is at 5% harvested; this progress is the same as 2017 and ahead of the five year average by 2%. The current states not in harvest yet are CO, IA, MI, MN, ND, OH, SD, and WI. TX is already beyond the halfway mark at 63% harvested.

Soybeans dropping leaves is at 31% overall; ahead of previous progress by at least 10%. Soybean harvest is expected to begin this week.

All states are now reporting cotton bolls opening! CA was reporting 0% last week and now has 4% opening. The overall progress is at 39% which is ahead of the progress from previous years. Cotton harvest has started. Currently, AZ, LA, MS, and TX are the only states in harvest at this time.

Sugarbeet harvest is now at 5% which is on track with the five year average and 1% behind 2017. All sugarbeet states except for MN are in harvest.

Sorghum coloring is at 79% with TX now reporting 90% coloring. Sorghum mature is at 34% with all states now reporting sorghum mature. CO was reporting 0% last week but now has 9% mature. Sorghum harvest is nearly finished in LA with 96% harvested. TX and AR are reporting over 60% harvested while other states have less than 10% or have not started harvest yet.

Peanut harvest has started and is at 1%! FL, GA, and VA are the only states in harvest currently.

Rice harvest is nearly finished in TX and LA, both reporting nearly, if not over, 90% harvested. CA has started their rice harvest this week and is reporting 2% harvested.
