Crop Progress Report for the Week of October 8, 2018

Corn mature is at 93%; ahead of previous years by at least 10%.  IL, MO, and NC are reporting 100% corn mature.  In the corn mature stage, the only progress behind that of previous years is in TX where the maturing progress is behind 2017 by 4%.  All other states are meeting or exceeding their progress in previous years.  Overall corn harvest progress is at 34%.  Only ND is reporting under 10% harvested.  NC is reporting the most progress with 88% harvested this week.  Progress is ahead of previous years overall.  The only states behind their 2017 progress are PA, TN, and TX.  All only behind by 1-4%.

Soybeans dropping leaves is in the final stages.  Overall progress is at 91% with ND reporting 99% dropping leaves this week.  Furthest behind are NC, KY, and MO-the only states reporting under 80% progress.  Soybean harvest progress is behind the previous years’ progress overall by 2-4%.  Overall progress is at 32% with NC, KS, and WI reporting under 20% harvested.  MI is reporting 16% harvested this week where 2017 progress was 47% by this time of year.

Cotton bolls opening reached 100% in AR, LA, and MO this week.  The overall progress is at 78% with AZ reporting 99% this week.  CA is the furthest behind with 50% progress; this is ahead of last week by 25%, the most progress in any cotton states.  Cotton harvest has started in KS, CA, and VA.  The overall progress for cotton harvest is at 25%; this is 1-7% higher than previous years.

Sugarbeet harvest is at 40% overall.  Individually, the only state behind their 2017 progress is ND.  ND and MN are both behind their five year average.

Sorghum is still maturing with the overall progress at 73%.  No new states have reached 100% and only IL, MO, and TX are reporting at least 80% mature.  Sorghum harvest is behind the five year average with 39% harvested overall. 

Peanut harvest is at 33% overall.  All state are now in peanut harvest, OK being the most recent one to begin their harvest.  FL has the most progress at 58% harvested.  All other states are under 50% harvested.

Sunflower harvest has started.  Overall progress is at 6%; ahead of 2017 by 1%.  CO is the only sunflower state not harvesting at this time.

Rice harvested is at 79% overall with TX reporting 100% harvested this week.  CA is reporting 30% harvested, MO is reporting 71% harvested and all other states are at least 80% through their rice harvest.
