Crop Progress Report for the Week of October 15, 2018

Corn mature is now at 96% overall with IN most recently reporting 100%.  Corn mature is projected to reach 100% overall through this week.  Corn harvest is at 39% overall.  This is ahead of 2017 by 12%!  All states are reporting at least 15% harvested and NC is reporting 91% harvested; nearly finished.

Soybeans dropping leaves are at 95% overall.  ND is now reporting 100% dropping leaves where many other states are reporting at least 90%.  This stage of growth is expected to reach 100% through this week.  Soybean harvest is at 38% overall.  This is behind previous progress by 9-15%.  Only IL, IN, LA, and MS are reporting at least 50% harvested.  Most states are behind their 2017 progress; KY, NE, and TN are the only states ahead of their 2017 harvest progress.

Cotton bolls opening are at 85% overall.  This is ahead of the previous years by 2-4%. AZ is the most recent state to report 100% bolls opening.  Cotton harvest is at 32% overall.  This progress is ahead of previous years by 2-7%.  AR, LA, MS, and MO are reporting at least 50% harvested.  MO’s progress is ahead of 2017 by 31% and ahead of their five year average progress by 40%.

Sugarbeet harvest is at 42% overall.  This is behind previous years’ progress by at least 20%.  All sugarbeet states reported only a few percentage points of progress through the week.

Sorghum harvest is at 42% overall.  AR is now reporting their harvest finished for the year.  IL, MO, and TX are the only states over the halfway mark for their harvest.  NM is reporting under 10% harvested.

Peanut harvest is at 45% overall.  OK had good progress through the week going from 1% to 30% harvested.  FL has the most progress at 69% harvested and GA is the only other state reporting over 50% harvested.

Sunflower harvest is at 10%; this is behind previous years by 1-5%.  SD and CO are the furthest behind with under 10% harvested.

Rice harvest is at 88% overall.  LA is now reporting 100% harvested.  AR and MS are reporting over 90% harvested and CA and MO are under 90% harvested.
