Crop Progress Report for the Week of October 23, 2018

Corn mature reached 100% last week.  Corn harvest is nearly at the halfway mark at 49% harvested overall.  NC and TN are at least 90% harvested and will likely be the first to finish their corn harvest.  Furthest behind are WI, ND, and MI; each around 25% harvested.  Overall, progress is ahead of 2017 by 12% and ahead of the five year average by 2%.  MI, NC, PA, TN, and TX are behind their 2017 progress but only by 1-4%.

Soybean harvest is at 53% overall.  This is behind previous years by 14-16%.  LA has the most harvest progress at 91% harvested.  AR, KS, MI, ND, SD, and WI are behind their 2017 progress by over 25%.  All states except for KY and TN are at or behind their 2017 progress.

Cotton bolls opening only progressed 3% through the week for 88% overall.  No new states are reporting 100% bolls opening.  Cotton is at 39% harvested overall.  KS is the furthest behind with 3% harvested.  MO is the furthest ahead with 81% harvested.  MO and MS have the most progress compared to their 2017 harvest progress.  Furthest behind compared to 2017 is SC, behind by 16%. 

Sugarbeet harvest is at 65% overall.  Only MI is ahead of their 2017 progress and they are ahead by 6%.  MN and ND are at least 10% behind their 2017 progress.  Overall, the progress is behind the five year average by 10%.

Sorghum harvest progressed by 4% this week.  All states are reporting at least 20% harvested and no new states are finished with harvest.  Overall, progress is at 46%.  This is the same as 2017 and behind the five year average by 10%.

Peanuts harvested crossed the halfway mark this week.  Peanut harvest progress is at 56% overall.  This is behind previous years by 2-5%.  All states are reporting progress behind their progress from 2017.  SC is reporting as much as 20% behind.

Sunflower harvest is at 19% overall. This is behind previous years by 8-9%.  SD is behind the 2017 progress by 22% with only 8% harvested.  All states except for ND are behind their five year average progress.

Rice harvest is reaching an end with 90% overall harvested.  CA is the only state reporting under 90% harvested at 66% harvested.  The overall progress is behind previous years by 4-7%.  MO is the only state ahead of progress from previous years.
