Crop Progress Report for the Week of October 29, 2018

Corn harvest is at 63% overall; the same progress as the five year average and ahead of 2017 by 11%.  NC and TN area nearly finished with harvest at 95% harvested.  IA, MI, NE, ND, SD, and WI are the only states under 50% harvested.

Soybeans harvested are at 72% overall.  This is behind the progress from previous years by 9%.  LA is nearly finished with harvest at 93% harvested.  KS and NC are the only states under 50% harvested.  In 2017, at this time of year, LA was finished with their soybean harvest.  Most states are behind their progress from previous years with the exceptions of IL, IN, and KY which are 1-3% ahead of previous years.

Cotton bolls opening are almost finished at 91% overall and are expected to continue through this growth stage through the week.  This week, MS and TN reached 100% bolls opening.  Overall progress is behind previous years by 1-3%.  Cotton harvest is at 44% overall.  KS is reporting under 5% harvested and is about 7-8% behind progress from previous years.  AR, LA, and MO are reporting over 80% harvested; most other states are under 50% harvested.

Sugarbeet harvest is at 82% overall which is behind previous years by 3%.  ND is nearly finished at 98% harvested while MI just made it over 50% harvested this week.

Sorghum harvest surpassed the halfway mark and is at 53% harvested overall.  No new states have reached 100% and IL and TX are the only states reporting over 80% harvested.  KS, NM, and SD are reporting under 35% harvested.

Peanut harvest is at 66% overall, all states except for AL are behind their progress from 2017.  FL has the furthest progress with 81% harvested where TX and OK are reporting below 50% harvested.

Sunflower harvest is at 33% overall.  This progress is behind previous years by 12-17%.  SD is the furthest behind with 16% harvested; behind progress from their previous years by 32%.  Most other states are nearly or at least 40% harvested.

Rice harvest is coming to a close at 96% harvested overall.  Rice harvest is expected to finish this week.  CA was behind earlier in the year but was able to make 26% progress this week going from 66 to 92% harvested.
