Crop Progress Report for the Week of April 8, 2019

2019 corn planting has started!  The only states planting currently are KS, KY, MO, NC, TN, and TX.  KY had not started planting at this time last year, all other states are at about the same progress as they were in 2018.  TN, KY, and TX are the only states ahead of their 5 year average progress.

Cotton planting is at 6% planted overall.  This week OK had started their planting.  The only states planting now are AZ, OK, and TX.  In the five year average, CA had 11% planted by this time of year but has not started their cotton planting yet.

Sorghum planting is at 14% overall with only TX planting.  In 2018, OK had started planting by this time of year but has not yet this year.

Rice is being planted in all rice states except for CA.  LA has surpassed the halfway mark at 70% planted this week.  This progress is ahead of the five year average but behind 2018’s progress.  Overall progress is at 19%.  MO has started planting and is at 5% planted.  This is ahead of the five year average for MO and in 2018 this state had not started planting rice at this time of year yet.

Sugarbeet planting has started in ID and MI.  MN and ND have not started planting yet.  MI has 1% planted which is ahead of their progress for 2018 and the five year average.
