Crop Progress Report for the Week of August 19, 2019

Corn silking reached 100% this week in MO and TN.  Overall progress is at 95% where in 2018 it was at 100% by this time of year.  Silking won’t be on the report next week as it is expected to reach 100% overall.  There are still some states reporting under 90% silking; IN, MI, OH, PA, and WI.  Corn dough crossed the halfway mark at 55% overall.  2018 progress was 83% for this time of year.

Soybeans blooming are at 90% overall.  No new states are reporting 100% blooming.  All states are reporting at least 80% blooming.  Soybeans setting pods are at 68% overall where in 2018 progress was 90%.  All states except for MI are reporting over 50% setting pods.

Cotton setting bolls are at 85% overall.  LA and MO reported 100% for this time of year in 2018 and this year, LA is reporting 99% while MO is reporting 70% setting bolls.  All states are now reporting bolls opening, most recently are CA, MO, OK, and VA.  AZ and TX have the most progress at over 30%.

Sorghum headed is at 75% overall; behind 2018 by 11%.  Sorghum coloring is at 31% overall, CO reporting 4% and TX reporting 77%.  The other states are between 10-20%.  Sorghum mature is at 21% overall with TX reporting 70% and OK reporting 2%.  No other states are reporting sorghum mature.

Rice headed is at 88% overall.  MO and AR are the only states reporting under 90% headed.  Rice harvest is at 10% overall with LA reporting 50% and TX reporting 36% harvested.  No other states have started their rice harvest.
