Crop Progress Report for the Week of July 15, 2019

Corn silking is now at 17%, behind 2018 by 42%.  Only MI and SD are reporting 0% this week, all other states are reporting at least 1% silking.  TN and NC are furthest along with 80% silking.  Next week we should start to see corn in the dough stage.

Soybeans emerged are nearly finished at 95% with MN, NE, and ND now reporting 100% emerged.  Soybeans should be 100% emerged next week and we should also see soybeans setting pods.  Soybeans blooming are at 22% overall, behind 2018 by 40%.  All states are now reporting soybeans blooming where MI and WI had 0% last week but now have 7-9% this week.

Cotton squaring is at 60% this week, behind 2018 by 10%.  Most states are reporting over 50% squaring with KS and MO at or below 40%.  Cotton setting bolls is at 20% which is behind 2018 by 10%.  Only OK is reporting 0% setting bolls.  KS and MO recently are reporting a few percent setting bolls.

Sorghum headed is at 24% with CO and SD reporting 0% headed.  TX is furthest ahead at 67% which is still behind TX’s 2018 progress but only by 2%.  Sorghum coloring is now at 14% overall.  The only state reporting sorghum coloring is TX at 49%, behind 2018 by 10%.

Peanuts pegging are at 67%, same progress for this time of year last year.  TX is reporting 10% pegging, OK is reporting 40% pegging and all other states are reporting at least 50% pegging.  AL and GA are furthest along with over 80% pegging.

Rice headed is at 24% with all states now reporting rice headed.  AR and MO are still under 10% headed while LA and TX are the only states over 50% headed.
