Corn silking is behind 2018 progress by 32%. All states are now reporting at least 20% silking, last week states were still under 10%. In 2018, IL was reporting 100% silking for this time of year but is reporting 59% this year. Furthest ahead are NC and TN reporting over 90%. Corn in the dough stage is at 13%, behind 2018 by 22%. MI, ND, and WI are reporting 0% dough where in 2018 these states were reporting close to 10%.
Soybeans blooming are at 57%, behind 2018 by 28%. Most states are reporting over 50% blooming. All states are now reporting soybeans setting pods. Last week some states were reporting 0% and others were only reporting a couple percentage points. This week, all but three states are reporting over 10% setting pods (IN, MO, and OH are under 10%).
Cotton squaring is at 86% and AZ is reporting 99% squaring. For this time in 2018, AR, MS, and MO reported 100% squaring. This year they are reporting between 93-98% squaring. Cotton setting bolls are at 45% overall, behind 2018 by 3%.
All states are now reporting sorghum headed at 33% overall. CO reported 0% last week and now has 18% headed. All states are reporting at least 10% headed and TX is furthest ahead with 79% headed. Sorghum coloring is at 21% overall. CO and SD are reporting 0% coloring this week. KS, NE, and OK are all under 5% coloring and TX is reporting 70% coloring.
Peanuts pegging are at 84% overall. AL, GA, and FL are reporting over 90% pegging. Peanuts pegging is behind past years by 1%. AL, FL, and GA, the three furthest ahead, are even ahead of their own progress from 2018.
Rice headed is at 42% overall. Furthest behind is MO with 14% headed. LA and TX are reporting over 80% headed.
